SLANT grants are designed to encourage and support meaningful and authentic service-learning experiences. Applying for a SLANT grant is completely optional and will require the coach to submit a brief application to be reviewed by the SLANT Grant Committee.
Upon submitting the team’s completion information, each SLANT team in this year’s Tip-Off Edition will be eligible to apply for a SLANT grant. One grant will be awarded in each of the four service issue areas: (1) Health and Wellness (2) Learning and Literacy (3) Hunger and Homelessness and (4) Environmental Impact.
Each of the four grants is valued at $1000 and must be used by the awarded teams to continue to advance the team’s issue area. The awarded team will must agree to use all the money granted on the activities outlined in its application; a record of all expenditures, together with copies of legible receipts, will be maintained and submitted to Big Thought no later than 6 months from the date of the grant awarded.
The SLANT Grant Committee will consider information submitted on the SLANT grant application as well as information from the team’s online profile. SLANT grants will be awarded to four teams that best demonstrate how their service-learning project enhances the community through the service provided, while also having a powerful learning consequence for the students providing the service.
